Accident Only

Take Care of Your Pet
Your pet’s health is our priority. When she needs veterinary care, go to your local vet and get her the treatment that she needs.
Lodge a Claim
Then submit a claim online, along with some details about what happened, and the vet’s invoices and documentation.
Get Reimbursed
Upon receiving all necessary paperwork we’ll review the claim, and reimburse your expenses upon acceptance of the valid claim.
Reimbursement is subject to submission & acceptance of a valid claim.
Important Things to Note
We don’t like to hide behind fine-print, so here are a few important things to note about pet insurance in New Zealand…
Excesses
Most Cove plans have an excess, which is an amount you need to pay when you make a claim. A higher excess means your monthly premiums are more affordable. In fact, we’ve specifically designed our Major Stuff policy to have a higher excess to make it super affordable.
Co-payments
A Co-Pay is a standard feature of pet insurance policies in New Zealand. It is the percentage amount of each eligible claim that you contribute. So with a 20% co-payment, you’ll pay 20% towards the cost of eligible vet care. This means if the claim is for $1,000, your co-pay will be $200, along with any applicable excesses.
Pre-existing Conditions
As with nearly all pet insurance brands, Cove excludes pre-existing conditions. A pre-existing condition is one that occurs before you purchase a policy with us.
Waiting Periods
A waiting period is the amount of time that needs to pass before you can claim for certain accidents or illnesses. Cove has no waiting periods for accidental injuries, 21 days for illness conditions, and 6 months for cruciate ligament conditions.

What does Cove pet insurance cover?
Cove offers three types of policy: Accident Only, Major, and Major + Minor. Exactly what each of these covers is summarised in the tables above, and can be found in the policy documents.
In general, Accident Only provides cover for when your pet is involved in a sudden unforeseen accident – such as being hit by a vehicle. Our other two policy types cover this type of accident, but they also extend into illness.

What is not covered by Cove pet insurance?
Pre-existing conditions are the main thing to be aware of. Any pre-existing conditions are not covered, and this includes any conditions that develop during the stand-down period.
