Need help choosing?

Which of these scenarios do you relate with most…

Accident Only

Mia treats her dog like a king, and knows it’s from a leading breeder with a history of breeding strong, healthy dogs. For Mia, she decides to buy cover just for those nasty unforeseen events, such as her beloved dog being hit by a ute. With Cove’s Accident Only policy, Mia can lodge a claim to help with the consultations, X-Rays, and medications related to this event. However, since this is an extremely affordable policy, illnesses such as skin problems and cancer aren’t covered.

Major Stuff Cover

Nikau has recently adopted a dog, and can comfortably manage to pay for run-of-the-mill vet consultations and minor mishaps or health-related issues. However, what scares him is being faced with a $5,000 bill for major surgery or intensive treatment for an illness, so Nikau chooses Coves Major Stuff Cover. Because it is designed only to be used for those eye-watering large vet bills, the premium is much more affordable month to month.

Major + Minor Stuff Cover

Matilda has recently adopted a cat, and like Nikau, is worried about facing large vet bills for major surgery or intensive treatment for an illness.

However, Matilda also wants help in managing the occasions where her cat might need more minor treatment. The Major + Minor policy gives Matilda the peace of mind that her cat has a policy that can be called upon for a wider range of scenarios.

Important Things to Note

Excesses

All Cove plans have an excess, which is an amount you need to pay when you make a claim. A higher excess means your monthly premiums are more affordable. In fact, we’ve specifically designed our Major Stuff policy to have a higher excess to make it super affordable.

Co-payments

A Co-Pay is a standard feature of pet insurance policies in New Zealand. It is the percentage amount of each eligible claim that you contribute. So with a 20% co-payment, you’ll pay 20% towards the cost of eligible vet care. This means if the claim is for $1,000, your co-pay will be $200, along with any applicable excesses.

Pre-existing Conditions

As with nearly all pet insurance brands, Cove excludes pre-existing conditions. A pre-existing condition is one that occurs before you purchase a policy with us.

Waiting Periods

A waiting period is the amount of time that needs to pass before you can claim for certain accidents or illnesses. Cove has no waiting periods for accidental injuries, 21 days for illness conditions, and 6 months for cruciate ligament conditions.
