Refer a Friend – Terms & Conditions
Cove’s Refer a Friend program is designed to encourage Cove’s customers to tell their friends about Cove so they become customers and to reward them for doing so. The reward is a reduction of their next premium payment of up to $100. The same reward is provided to their friend if they become a Cove customer.
Participation in the Refer a Friend program (“The Program”) is subject to these terms and conditions, which are part of the Cove Terms of Use. Capitalised terms that are not defined here will have the same meaning given to them in the Cove Terms of Service. Cove (“Cove Limited”) reserves the right to terminate The Program at any time and for any reason.

Definitions
Cove Customer – A person who has purchased a policy with Cove
Invited Customer – A person who has received an invite from a Cove Customer
Refer a Friend Discount – Discount of up to NZ$100 equivalent to be used on Cove policy purchases or renewal payments in a given renewal cycle (one month). This is also referred to as a ‘free month’.
How to Earn Refer a Friend Discounts
You can earn Refer a Friend discounts by telling your friends about Cove, and them becoming customers. To do this, you simply send your friend an invite using the links provided in My Cove, as described below in the Sharing Invites section.
The invite will provide your friend with a link, which if activated, will entitle them to receive a discount of up to NZ$100 to apply towards a new policy purchased by them. They can use any remaining Discount after the initial policy purchase to purchase additional policies in the same (initial) billing period. To be eligible for Discounts, an Invited Customer must:
- Satisfy Cove’s normal underwriting criteria for the relevant policy
- Be a new Cove customer (no current or previous policies with Cove)
- Register a valid credit card on initial purchase for subsequent renewal payments. Standard renewal payments will be automatically debited after any Discounts have been used.
The Cove Customer will also receive Discounts on their next policy renewal payment (up to NZ$100) after the Invited Customer pays their first renewal in full. Any remaining Discount can be used to purchase new policies in the same monthly renewal cycle. Any Discount remaining at the end of the renewal cycle (if any) is forfeited. Standard renewal payments will be automatically debited after any Discounts have been used.
How to Redeem Earned Discounts
Discounts will be applied automatically to the Cove Customer’s premium payments, which are paid on each renewal cycle and/or new policies purchased in the same renewal cycle. Invited Customers will have any relevant Discount applied whilst purchasing their new policy.
Discounts are for promotional purposes; they have no cash value and may not be transferred or exchanged for cash. Discounts can only be used for payment of renewals (for a Cove Customer) and new policies with Cove (for Cove Customers or Invited Customers).
If for any reason you believe that there is a discrepancy regarding your Discount, please contact us. Cove may require you to submit additional information in order to make a determination regarding your balance. All decisions regarding your balance will be final and at Cove’s sole discretion.
You are responsible for any tax consequences, if any, that may result from Discounts applied. Where applicable, Cove may be required to account for GST and levies on any services for which a Discount has been applied.
Specific Exclusions
Discounts can only be used for Renewal payments (Cove Customers) or purchase of new policies (Invited Customers and Cove Customers).
Discounts cannot be used for policy endorsements, such as adding optional extras after initial policy purchase or for any other purposes, including but not limited to payment of claim excess.
Only one Discount can be used in a given renewal cycle, up to a maximum of NZ$100.
Remaining Discounts (if any) are forfeited after the renewal cycle in which they were issued
The Discount earned can only be applied to the policy renewal or purchase of new policies by the Cove Customer who sent the invite. Discounts, or remaining discounts (if any), accrued by separate Cove Customers cannot be combined or applied to the account of another Cove Customer.
There are no refunds applicable to policies paid (or part thereof) with Discounts. For example, Cove normally refunds the premium paid if the policy is cancelled within 14 days, provided no claim has been made. If this was a $120 policy paid with a $100 Discount and $20 cash, a refund of $20 would be applicable. The $100 Discount would be forfeited in this example.
The Program may not be combined with other Cove referral programs or incentives.
Sharing Invites
On the My Cove screen – app.coveinsurance.co.nz/user/dashboard/ (this is only accessible for Cove policyholders), there is a section named ‘Refer a Friend’. Here there are links to share via email, Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp or to copy and paste the link. This link can be forwarded on to recipients, which directs them to the Cove website with the referral data included entitling them to the ‘Refer a friend’ benefit, given they meet the required criteria stated in these Terms.
Invites can be shared by clicking the ‘Share’ button on the ‘Refer a Friend’ card. The ’Refer a Friend’ link can be found in the ‘Cove Info’ section of your Facebook Messenger conversation thread. This will also be displayed after each new policy purchased with Cove.
Non-Customers can share invites via the same mechanism, however, will not be eligible for earning Discounts until after they become a Cove Customer. Invites shared prior to becoming a Cove customer will not be eligible for Discounts.
Invites should only be used for personal and non-commercial purposes. Customers are prohibited from “spamming” anyone with invitations. This includes using automated systems or bots through any channel to distribute invite messages. Cove Customers are prohibited from paying to advertise their invite messages. Cove Customers can only share invite messages to their Facebook friends.
Multiple Invites
An Invited Customer may only use one invite message from a given Cove Customer. If the Invited Customer takes out a policy, they become a Cove Customer. The link used by the Invited Customer will determine which Cove Customer is eligible for receiving a Discount. A Cove Customer can issue invites to as many of their friends as they choose, or even people they don’t like, subject to the above clause banning commercial use and spamming. Once a Discount has been earned from a given invite, no further Discounts can be earned.
Severability
If any provision in these terms are held to be invalid, void, or unenforceable, such provision (or the part of it that is making it invalid, void or unenforceable) will be struck out and not affect the validity of and enforceability of the remaining provisions.
Termination and Changes
Cove may suspend or terminate The Program or a particular user’s ability to participate in The Program at it’s discretion at any time without giving any reason.
Cove has the absolute discretion to cancel policies or remove/reverse Discounts if we notice any activity that we believe is abusive, fraudulent, or in violation of the intent of Cove Terms of Service or The Program Terms and Conditions. Cove reserves the right to review and investigate all invite activities and to suspend users or modify Discounts in our sole discretion, as deemed fair and appropriate by Cove.
The scope, variety, and type of services and products that you may use earned Discounts on can change at any time.
Updates to the Terms
Cove can update these terms at any time without prior notice. If we modify these terms, we will post the modification on the Cove website, which are effective immediately upon posting, unless otherwise stated. Continued participation in the The Program after any modification shall constitute consent to such modification.
